VELLORE:Two persons, who were allegedly readying to rob houses in Ariyur were arrested with possession of deadly weapons, early morning on Sunday. A third person, who was part of the gang and the mastermind behind the plot to rob the houses, remains at large.
Police arrested Jones Paul(33) and his friend Kaviyarasu(28), residents of Otteri in Bagayam and confiscated their car. Jones Paul runs a service station for washing cars and two-wheelers. Kaviyarasu is a daily-wage labourer. A manhunt was launched to locate Praveen, who fled on seeing police officials.
Police sources said that the trio was waiting in a car near Ussoor bus stop. Ariyur police constables, who were on their usual beat around 4 AM on Sunday, started walking towards the vehicle to inquire. On seeing the police officials approaching, the three abandoned the vehicle and took to their heels. The police chased the trio but Praveen managed to escape. Jones Paul and Kaviyarasu were taken to the police station for inquiry and the officials seized four deadly weapons including sickle and knife from the car.
Preliminarily interrogation of the duo revealed that Praveen was the mastermind who had plotted and hatched a plan to rob houses in Ussoor. A case was registered in Ariyur police station and an inquiry is on.
