Mass Demos See 3,500 School Kids Stretch in Unison

PUDUCHERRY:To mark the International Day of Yoga observed across the world with the theme ‘Yoga for Harmony and Peace’ several organisations in Puducherry held mass yoga sessions in the open air following the protocol issued by AYUSH and the Ministry of Health.

 On Beach Road, over 3,500 children from several schools in Puducherry participated in a mass yoga session held on Sunday morning, The school children, lined up on Beach Road, wearing sports outfits, and carrying their mats and performed basic ‘asanas.’ Despite the programme being delayed beginning only around 7.20 am and ending at 8.10 am, it was a treat to watch the boys and girls doing the ‘asanas’ as per instructions.

CM N Rangasamy inaugurated the mass yoga session,Yoga sessions were held in other locations with approximately, 1,724 cadets, belonging to the NCC Group, Puducherry, performed mass yoga at Tagore Arts College Grounds in Lawspet. As many as 9,000 cadets of Puducherry group took part in the yoga exercises at 17 different venues, including Mahe and Yanam.

A special  yoga practice session was conducted at community hall of JIPMER between 7 am to 7.33 am by Advance Centre for Yoga Therapy, Education and Research (ACYTER). JIPMER had organized a month-long free yoga camp, from May 21 to June 20, with an emphasis on the role of yoga in promotion of health and prevention of diseases. A national workshop-cum-seminar on Yoga was held at JIPMER as part of the celebrations.

A public awareness programme with free yoga therapy consultations, talks, and demonstrations in collaboration with the Pondicherry Yogasana Association was held at the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute (MGMCRI) city centre from 7 am to 1.30 pm.

ACYTER has planned various programmes from June 21-26, 2015. A Yoga awareness programme for medical and paramedical students will be held from June 22 to 25. A National seminar and CME on therapeutical potential of yoga in collaboration with Dept of Physiology at MGMCRI on June 26.
