MADURAI: A class 10, school girl died when a gas leak lead to fire at her house in Natham on Monday.
According to Police sources, Kavya (16) was staying with her grandfather Ramasamy at Ulupakudi east street near Natham as she lost her mother a few years ago. Her father, a farmer was staying at a different location in Natham.
On Sunday night, gas cylinder was leaked at the kitchen while the members of family were sleeping. However, on Monday morning around 7.00 a.m, without realizing that the gas leak, Kavya has lit the gas stove to prepare coffee. Immediately, fire spread across the kitchen.
While the flames spread across the house, house hold articles and other furniture materials gutted in fire. A refrigerator also blasted during the incident. Sources said.
Kavya's brother Karthick (18) who had tried to rescue during the fire accident sustained injuries.
Natham fire rescue personal rushed the spot and brought the fire under control. Natham Police registered a case and investigating the matter.
