COIMBATORE:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the Coimbatore district administration to make necessary arrangements on the banks of river Noyyal in Perur for the benefit of public who perform rituals for their ancestors during Aadi Perukku.
“Aadi perukku, celebrated on 18th of Tamil month Aadi, is an important festival of Hindus. On the occasion, each family member would perform various rituals to pay homage to their ancestors. This is a holy duty of every Hindu,” BJP state general secretary G K S Selvakumar said in a release.
“In Coimbatoret, people have been performing these poojas on the banks of Noyyal River at Perur for over several hundreds of years. But, now there is no water flow in the river. The district administration should take urgent steps to increase water flow in the river,” he added.
He further said, “Besides, the steps that lead to Noyyal river banks in Perur should be renovated. Also, the river and surrounding areas should be cleaned, apart from installing protecting barriers."
If the district administration needs volunteers to carry out these works, the BJP men are willing to help, he said.
