Two 'Astrologers' Arrested for Theft

The Pollachi East police arrested two youth, aged 21 and 23, for stealing Rs 6,200 from the owner of a photo studio near Mackinampatty.

COIMBATORE:The Pollachi East police arrested two youth, aged 21 and 23, for stealing Rs 6,200 from the owner of a photo studio near Mackinampatty, Pollachi by posing as astrologers on Tuesday.

According to sources, the accused, V Ranjith Rao (21) and R Palanisamy (23), both from Nagarajapuram, Coimbatore, came to the photo studio belonging to N Senthilmurugan (28) and introduced themselves as astrologers. They then asked Senthilmurugan for some water. When he went to a neighbouring building to get water, the duo entered the studio and raided the cash register. They stole the money and hid it in their garments.

After some time, Senthilmurugan returned and gave them water, after which they left. When the victim checked the cash register, he found that the money kept inside was missing. He alerted his friend, along with whom he began looking for the duo. They quickly found the two men and apprehended them. They handed over the two to the Pollachi East Police, who registered a case under section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IPC and remanded them to judicial custody.

In a separate incident, a man from Udumalpet, who stole 70 sovereigns in gold from a relative, Salim Munisha Ahmed (55) from Kulathupalayam, Kovaipudur, on the pretext of performing an exorcism, was arrested and remanded to custody.
