Labourer Given life Sentence
Tiruchy: The Mahila Court here on Monday sentenced a 31-year-old farm labourer to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 for raping a minor girl and impregnating her, near Manachanallur in the district. The girl, now 19, has a two-year-old boy. According to the prosecution, the victim, a resident of Poosarikottam had lodged a complaint stating that her relative T Sivakumar (31) of Rasampalayam had raped her after promising marriage. Police Police registered a case under IPC Section 376 and arrested Sivakumar on the same day.
12-yr Jail for Daily wager
Nagercoil: K Sivabalan (27) a daily wager was sentenced by the Mahila court here on Monday to 12 years imprisonment and fined Rs 25,000 for raping a deaf and dumb girl. According to the prosecution, on May 25, 2010, Sivabalan of Paramanvilai waylaid a 11-year-old deaf and dumb mentally challenged girl who was returning home from a function. He took her to a coconut grove nearby and raped her. Following a complaint from the girl’s parents Sivabalan was arrested. When the case came up for hearing the Mahila Court convicted him and awarded 12 years imprisonment.
