Captain's Dog Steals Show in Championship

MADURAI: Association does matter when it comes to grabbing eyeballs. That precisely was witnessed during the “23rd and 24th All Breed Championship Dog” Show held at the Gandhi Memorial Museum Grounds here on Sunday, when a standard poodle - raised by DMDK leader Vijayakant’s son Vijaya Prabhakaran - was the cynosure of all eyes and envy of fellow-competitors.

Named Arthur, a breed from Sweden, was one of the ten dogs brought by him to participate in the competitions. True to its lineage, it won the 2nd prize in the 23rd championship and emerged on top in the 24th. Looking cute, spectators were eager to fondle it. So much so that other dog handlers had to step in to help them not get disturbed.A foreign woman was its handler, who was found busy caressing and grooming it. She was one among the eight-member team that accompanied the ten dogs of Prabhakaran.

Other breeds brought by him, to take part in the show, were the Siberian husk, the Peagle, Dachshund, Whippet and the Bull Mastiff. They all were transported, in an airconditioned caravan, all the way from Chennai. Though Prabhakaran was accompanying his dogs, he kept himself away from media.
