VELLORE: A 27 year-old mother of three, was arrested, along with her nephew and his friend on Sunday for the murder of the woman’s mother-in-law. The stolen jewels too have been recovered from them.
Investigations conducted following the murder of Gowri (alias) Gowriammal(62), of Kasanampalayam village in Kurusilapet revealed that Gowriammal’s daughter-in-law, Sandhya had hatched and executed a plan to murder her mother-in-law.
Gowri’s son, Jaishankar, a conductor in TNSTC, fell in love with Sandhya and married her againt his mother’s will. After their marriage, the couple developed differences. . Sandhya told her Bangalore-based sister that Gowri had been harassing her. She also instigated her nephew Ranjith Kumar, to get rid of Gowri.
Ranjith Kumar, along with his friend Santhosh, both of in their early 20s, came to Tirupattur and monitored the movements of Gowri for a few days. On August 27, the duo entered the ground floor of the house during midnight when Gowri was sleeping and smothered her to death using a pillow. They also took away 10 sovereigns of gold chain to make it look as if the crime was for gain, said the police official.
Police arrested Sandhya and the duo. Sandhya was charged with instigating the youth to murder Gowri, while the men were charged with murder and robbery. They were subsequently lodged in the Vellore Central Prison for Women and Men, respectively.
