NAGAPATTINAM: In a tragic incident, the bodies of three children, who went missing after school hours, were found floating in a pond on the outskirts of Panayakkudi village, near here  on Saturday night.

According to police sources, on Saturday three children  - Thilagan alias Edwin (13), son of Baskaran, Azhagumathi (12), daughter of Devendiran, and Anushya (9), daughter of Chakravarthy (all from  Panayakkudi village) - went to the panchayat middle-high schools in Uzhavanur and Kaduvangudi villages.

Since they didn’t return home after school hours, parents and villagers carried out a search during which they spotted the bodies of the kids floating in a pond belonging to Ponnaiyan of Panayakkudi.

On information, the Manalmedu police officials rushed to the spot and carried out investigations.

Police said that bodies of the kids have been kept at their respective homes.

“So far, the parents have not registered any complaint with the police. The police too have ruled out foul play in the incident. If the parents come forward to lodge their complaints, we will go for a medical investigation,” assistant superintendent of police Santhosh Hathimani told Express.
