Coming, 70 kg Gold Lakshmi Idol at Fair

CHENNAI: A gold statue of Sripuram Sri Lakshmi brought from the Sri Lakshmi Narayani Golden temple in Vellore will be put on display from Sunday at the seventh Hindu Spiritual Service Fair(HSSF) being held in the AM Jain college grounds.

Visitors can have darshan of the deity from 10 am to 6 pm. A swarna pooja will be performed to the idol, which weighs around 70 kg and devotees can offer tulasi theertham abishekam. This will have a scientific effect and give devotees peace of mind, said R Rajalaksmi, trustee of HSSF.

Further, Rajalaksmi said more than 9000 children had participated in various events held at the fair so far and  500-600 children each from 22 schools had visited the fair till Friday. The fair had a high-profile visitor in All India General Secretary of the Rashtriya SwayamSevak Sangh (RSS) Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi, who visited all the stalls at the fair. He also held meetings and personal briefings with several RSS functionaries in Tamil Nadu and left for Goa at around 6 pm.

The fair also had a trio of senior RSS functionaries from Gujarat, who said they were taking stock of the arrangements to recreate the fair in their State, possibly by 2016.
