House to Meet from February 17

CHENNAI: The first session of the Tamil Nadu Assembly this year begins on February 17 with the customary address of the Governor K Rosaiah. 

The session is to commence at 10.45 am and the Business Advisory Committee of the House will decide the duration of the session. Usually, it lasts for a week to debate on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address to the House and on the concluding day, Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will be replying to the discussion.   

On Friday, Panneerselvam chaired the meeting of the Cabinet at the Secretariat. The Cabinet reportedly discussed, among other issues, the content of the Governor’s address and the Ambedkar Law College students’ agitation over shifting the college to Sriperumbudur. The CM is scheduled to attend the meeting of the Governing Council of Niti Aayog to be chaired by PM Narendra Modi on February 8. The Cabinet meeting also discussed the points to be raised at this meeting.
