Srirangam to be Sealed for Bypoll Voting

CHENNAI: Chief Electoral Officer Sandeep Saxena on Saturday said political functionaries and party workers from outside Srirangam and who are not voters there should leave the constituency after 6 pm on February 11, on conclusion of campaign for February 13 by-election.

“Kalyanamandapams, community halls, lodges, guest houses would be checked to find out whether outsiders have been accommodated in these premises. Check posts would be set up in the constituency borders to track vehicular movement from outside the constituency. Vehicle permits given to candidates would cease to be valid with effect from 6 pm on February 11”, the CEO said in an official release here.

The CEO also said after 6 pm deadline, no one should display to the public any election matter by means of cinematograph, television or any other means. This includes all electronic form of communication, including SMS and internet. Any violation of these instructions would be punishable with imprisonment for two years or fine or both.

Temporary campaign offices of candidates/ political parties could be set up only 200 metres outside a polling station with only two persons manning the office not allowing unnecessary crowd. No eatable should be served in these camps.
