PUDUCHERRY: AIADMK MLA A.Anbalagan and around 150 party workers were taken into custody today after they launched a road roko here demanding that government distribute housing subsidy to the scheduled castes of Uppalam constituency without delay.
Anbalagan earlier held talks with the Director of the Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare urging the government to sanction Rs four lakh for each of the 40 families belonging to scheduled castes in the constituency that Anbalagan represents in the Assembly under a scheme of the department.
The official assured that the applications would be considered and subsidy sanctioned. But the legislator and a team of workers insisted that the Secretary to the department meet them and extend the assurance.
With the official not turning up, the legislator and his supporters launched road roko on the Puducherry-Tindivanam route holding up traffic for nearly half an hour.
