65-year-old Abuses UKG Child, Held

PUDUCHERRY: A 65 year-old-man was arrested on Sunday for sexually assaulting his neighbour’s five-year-old daughter.

Police said Krishnamurthy of G V Nagar, Alankuppam, lured the girl staying opposite his house with the promise of chocolates and sweets when she came out of her house to play.

He then took her inside his house and sexually assaulted her. The girl’s parents, who are daily wage workers, were away when the incident took place. As the mother was returning from work, she noticed the child crying while coming out from the man’s house. The mother also noticed that the girl, a UKG student, was complaining of pain in her private parts.

On inquiring, she told her mother about the assault. The mother narrated the incident to people nearby, who thrashed Krishnamurthy before handing him over to D’ Nagar police.

As per guidelines, police reported the incident to the Child Welfare Committee and sent the child for medical examination and treatment. A case was registered against Krishnamurthy under section 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.

It may be recalled that a three-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a 70-year-old man in Bahour last week.
