Tirupattur to Get Free RO Water

VELLORE: Residents of 16th Ward attached to Tirupattur Municipality will receive water generated by Reverse Osmosis (RO) from the first week of July, a first in the state. The RO plant will supply 20 litres of water to each family on a daily basis.

The idea for the plant was initiated by ward councilor E Bharat and the proposal was approved by the state government. “Tirupattur Municipality has given their full co-operation for the proposal by giving land and water for the plant. We are the first in the state to provide free RO water to the residents.” said councilor Bharat. The total estimated project cost is `18 lakhs which will be completed through the Self Sufficiency Scheme (SSS). The ward residents contributed one third of the total cost and handed over the cheque to the municipality chairman which was then forwarded to the Collector.

The ward’s population of 2,023 will be served with around 12,000 litres of RO water on a daily basis, which is more than sufficient. After the completion of the project, each family will be issued a card for use in the RO plant to receive 20 liters of water per day. The maintenance of the plant will be done by twelve members selected by the Municipality from the locality, headed by councilor Bharat.
