Let Collector Resign Over SIDCO Deaths

VELLORE: Around 1,000 cadres of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi staged a demonstration near SIDCO Industrial estate factory demanding the district collector take responsibility for the tannery accident.

The protest was held at SIPCOT bus stand, where protestors raised slogans against the Collector R Nanthagopal and demanded that he resign from the post.  “We have only two requests for the district administration - first the resignation of the collector and to pay wages to the workers until the plant opens. Soon, the compensation amounts should reach the deceased families,” said N Chandrakumar, District Secretary of VCK.

In the wake of the accident, all 86 member units of the Ranipet SIDCO Finished Leather Effluent Treatment Company Ltd. and its Common Effluent Treatment Plant have been closed.
