Duo Caught Day After Murder in Burial Ground

VELLORE: A day after an 18-year-old boy was found murdered in a burial ground in Ammankuttai, police arrested two of his friends on Friday.

The murder was plotted by two friends of the deceased. The accused, identified as G Kennedy Mani alias Manikanadan (22) and B Sathish (24) of Salavanapettai, committed the crime in a revenge act. Three months ago, Manikandan and Sathish got together with the victim Jeevaratinam and a friend Mohan for a binge session.

Mohan lost his mobile phone during the party and Jeevaratinam allegedly spread rumours that Manikandan and Sathish had stolen the phone.

“When Sathish questioned Jeevaratinam about this, the latter denied having done so. Agitated, Sathish and Manikandan called him to the Ammankuttai burial ground on Wednesday and murdered him,” said Nagarajan, Investigation Officer.

Having lost his mother, Jeevaratinam was staying with his aunt in Salavanapettai and was employed in a sticker company in Sathuvachari. Jeevaratinam used to return home at around 9 pm every day.

However, on Wednesday, he didn’t return home for a long time, following which his relatives launched a search. His body was found lying in the Ammankuttai burial ground on Thursday morning.

Superintendent of Police Senthil Kumari visited the spot and conducted enquiry. The Vellore South police registered a case and remanded the duo.
