MADURAI: The husband and brother-in-law of a 26-year-old woman were arrested by the Madurai district police on Monday for allegedly splashing acid on a woman.
Police sources said the victim P Kaleeswari (26) was married to G Selvam (38) from Thathaneri for the past nine years and had two children. About two years ago, the couple separated over differences and Kaleeswari began living with her children at Thanakkankulam, her village near Austinpatti.
On Monday, when Kaleeswari was walking back home, Selvam and his elder brother G Thiruvettai (40) stopped her with their two-wheeler and tossed a bottle of acid on her. She managed to escape with minor burns on her hand. Based on Kaleeswari’s complaint, the Austinpatti police registered a case and arrested the duo.
