VELLORE: Attempts by members of the Tamil Nadu Thoweed Jamath (TNTJ) to conduct a free eye camp and use the building they have purchased in Kariyaseri Street, Saidapet, for community service was objected to by members of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munetra Kazhagam (TMMK) and the members of Sunnath Jamath.
However, free camp event led to allegations been directed to the TNTJ by the TMMK. The simmering tension came to a head on Tuesday calling for police personnel to be deployed in the area to avert a clash between the two groups. The cadres of TMMK and members of Sunnath Jamath claimed that the activities of the TNTJ were blasphemous.
TNTJ’s district president, S K Nizamuddin said they were following their holy book and did not indulge in blasphemy. “We have purchased a property on Kariyaseri Street and are using the building for community service,” he said.
