4 Persons Held for Gang-rape of Minor Girl in Madurai Village

MADURAI: The Madurai district police have arrested four persons for gang-raping a minor girl in a village near Melur on Tuesday.

Police sources said the victim, a school dropout, came to know Bharathiraja who visited the village often to meet his friend Stephenraj

On Tuesday night, Bharathiraja came to the village and the girl allegedly went to meet him at a secluded place outside the village. According to the police, Bharathiraja persuaded the girl to have sex with him.

The two were unaware that three other men had also come there. The girl was later allegedly raped by all the four men, including Bharathiraja, police said.

On returning home, the girl told her parents, who were daily wage earners, about the incident and the family approached the Melur All Women Police Station on Wednesday. A woman cop in mufti visited the girl’s house to register the complaint and the girl was sent to a hospital for checkup. The arrested persons were identified as as R Bharathiraja (23) from Azhagapuri and K Karthik (30), P Stephenraj (19) and M Ganesan (19) from the same village as the girl.
