Anbazhagan Flays Rangasamy Over Rain Relief Failure

PUDUCHERRY: AIADMK legislator A Anbazhagan came down heavily on the Rangasamy government for not providing relief to the rain affected people and also for not taking precautionary measures ahead of the heavy rain that was predicted.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, he said the administration failed to mobilise and engage various departments like PWD, Local Administration, Revenue and Police on time.

He said the drains were not properly desilted in many places ahead of the rainy season and that there has been a delay in clearing of garbage by the agency engaged by the government. He added that the condition of roads have become pathetic just after three or four days of rain and that the maintenance work of drainage too did not hold.

Pointing to Tamil Nadu, where reports of damage have been collected from various districts, Anbazhagan said Puducherry administration too should prepare a report after collecting necessary details from various departments concerned and submit the same to the Centre. He urged CM Rangasamy to pay special attention to preparation of the report and ensure that relief assistance is provided to all those affected by the rains.

Anbazhagan said that one Anandan (53), a resident of Kaliamman Koil Street of his Ouppalam constituency had died in the rain and sought adequate compensation to the victim’s family.

Seeks Details of Rs 188 Crore fund

Puducherry: AIADMK legislator A Anbazhagan demanded that the government come out with details of funds provided under the Coastal Disaster Risk Reduction Project (CDRRP).Addressing reporters here on Sunday, he said the Union government had allotted Rs 188 crore (as advance) to the Union Territory under the project funded by the World Bank. He added that the State government had announced it in its 2014-15 annual budget. He said nobody knows if the money was properly utilised or not.The World Bank-funded CDRRP is meant for addressing the multiple challenges of the coastal communities, which face hydro-meteorological hazards such as cyclone, storms, floods and tsunami, with a focus on risk reduction and mitigation.The AIADMK leader further said that CM Rangasamy should pay special attention to providing basic amenities and infrastructure to the coastal people.
