CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday directed the officials to issue duplicate ration cards immediately to those families which had lost the originals in the heavy rains and floods. She also directed that textbooks and notebooks and one set of uniform free of cost should be given to those students who had lost their books in floods.

In a statement here, the Chief Minister, said, “my government is according utmost importance to the education of children. All those who have lost their textbooks in the heavy rains will be given textbooks, notebooks and one set of uniform free of cost.”

She said relief and rehabilitation works in rain-affected districts had been going on in full swing and Rs 500 crore had already been allotted towards these works.
