Tamil Nadu CM Announces Rs Three Lakh Aid for Fencing Professional

Bhavani Devi, who had won many laurels in fencing had appealed to the CM for financial assistance to participate in tournaments.

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today announced a financial assistance of Rupees three lakh for a fencing professional to help her participate in competitions scheduled in Venezuela and France this month.

Jayalalithaa said C A Bhavani Devi, who had won silver medal in last year's Asian Fencing Championship besides winning many others laurels, had appealed to her for financial assistance to participate in these tournaments.

"I have directed that a financial assistance of Rs three lakh be immediately provided to CA Bhavani Devi through the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu," she said in a statement.

Jayalalithaa recalled that Devi had won a number of medals in various fencing contests and that she was presently training in the US to make it to the 2016 Rio Olympics and extended her best wishes to the sportsperson to win laurels at Venezuela and France.

Jayalalithaa reiterated her government's efforts to promote sports and sportspersons from the state and listed the various sops offered to them, including establishing new facilities and enhancing incentives to professionals who win medals in international competitions.
