KRISHNAGIRI: Two men were arrested at Denkaikottai in the district on Monday on charges of sexually abusing a mentally challenged 21-year-old woman.
Police said that the victim was on her way to fetch water near her house, when two of her neighbours, identified as N Veerendran (22) and S Santhosh (22), forcibly took her to the former’s house and sexually harassed her.
As the woman did not return home for a long time, her parents searched for her. During the search, they heard her crying at Veerandran’s house. When they tapped the door, the duo fled the house, through rear door, police said. Based on a complaint from the parents, the Denkanikottai All Women Police registered a case against the duo and later arrested them on Monday.
This is the third sexual harassment case involving a diffabled victim in the past 11 months in the district.
Earlier, a mentally retarded woman was reportedly gangraped at Kelamangaam and two men were arrested in that case. On Dec 25, last, a 16-year-old speech and hearing impaired girl was allegedly raped by a four-member gang near Kodakarai village in Denkanikottai.
