CM Urged to Name RS candidate from Karaikal

PUDUCHERRY: Deciding a candidate is getting more complicated for the ruling AINRC, with independent MLA VMC Sivakumar urging Chief Minister N Rangasamy to nominate a person from Karaikal to contest the lone Rajya Sabha seat on September 28. This comes after Yanam MLA Malladi Krishna Rao made a desperate attempt to get the Rajya Sabha nomination.

Sivakumar, who is supporting the government, said the Karaikal unit of AINRC had represented to him that the constituency should get a Rajya Sabha nomination since there has never been member from Karaikal. They were more determined after a similar demand was made from Yanam, he said.

Sivakumar urged the Chief Minister to fulfil the long-pending demand of Karaikal residents and name a candidate, adding that it would ensure overall unity of the Union Territory. With this, Rangasamy’s wish of uniform development of all the regions will be achieved, he added.

Meanwhile, The Secretary of Legislative Assembly Mohandas has been designated as returning officer and the Tamil reporter in the Legislative Assembly has been designated as the assistant returning officer for the biennial election to Rajya Sabha on September 28, stated Chief Electoral Officer V Candavelou.
