VELLORE:Seeking SC status for Dalit Christians, the Christian Minority Rights Movement based in Ambur has appealed to the Centre to immediately implement the Justice Ranganath Misra recommendations that would help the Dalits enable the SC provisions.

President of the organisation, N Sundar, said the recommendations were made by Misra in 2007 and the UPA government had not shown any interest.

“We are making an appeal to the present NDA government to take steps to include the Dalit Christian converts in the SC category,” he pointed out, adding that a demonstration was held at Ambur on Monday.

Sundar said while many Dalit Christian outfits were raising this issue on the national level, the governments at the Centre have been ignoring the issue.

Sundar said the movement had also made an appeal to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to take up this issue in the parliament through her MPs to grant the SC status.
