CHENNAI: PMK youth-wing leader, Anbumani Ramadoss, has urged the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industries, Nirmala Sitaraman, to ban the proposed importing of Chinese crackers into the country as it will severely affect the livelihood of more than 90 lakh people associated with the industry.

Anbumani.jpgAnbumani, in his letter to the Minister dated Sept 4, said that huge orders have been placed with Chinese manufacturers and that the imports are expected to double this year. Chinese fireworks have been making inroads into the Indian market illegally and posing a major threat to the Rs 6,000 crore Indian fireworks industry. “Apart from a business loss, Chinese crackers are hazardous in nature and also proving to be non-conducive to the security of the country,” he added.
