Lawyer Attacks MTC Driver

CHENNAI: A, a person claiming to be an advocate at the HC thrashed an MTC driver on General Patters Road in the city on Tuesday evening.

According to eyewitnesses, MTC route 27L plying between Anna Square and JJ Nagar West scraped the advocate’s car when he was trying to park the vehicle near Hotel Buhari on Mount Road. The bus driver Murugadoss (40) of Chrompet kept driving after the incident, though the lawyer blared his car horn to attract his attention. The irate advocate then overtook the bus at the bus -stop ahead of Express Avenue, got into the bus and slapped the driver.

The advocate then made the driver and the conductor Dharmalingam get down from the bus, and reportedly kicked the driver.  This prompted the passengers to rise in support of driver.  One of the passengers who was also a senior advocate at the HC, chided the advocate beating the driver and asked aloud as to whether that was the way an advocate should carry himself in public. Murugadoss tried to justify the incident as it was the rear left portion of the bus that brushed against the car.

Eyewitnesses quoted him as saying, “The advocate had ample time and space to avoid his car being scratched but he did not drive the vehicle properly.”

Meanwhile, police team arrived at the scene and whisked away the lawyer for interrogation. The bus driver was taken to the GRH.
