Two Held After Boy Drowns in Septic Tank

SALEM: Two persons attached to a private school were arrested on Saturday, two days after a Class VII student drowned in a school’s septic tank here. The arrested were identified as school electrician R Govindaraj (34), a resident of Kakkan Colony in Udaiyapatty, and supervisor A Muthu (43), hailing from Industrial Estate near Five Roads.

According to Veeranam Police, G Roshan (12) was a student of Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School near Ayothiyapattinam.

Roshan along with his friends were playing hide and seek on the school premises, when the former went to hide inside a storeroom that was not locked. As the room was dark, the boy did not notice the sump located in a corner and fell into it. He was rushed to the government Salem hospital, but in vain. 

Both the accused were produced before the court and remanded in custody. They were booked under Section 304 (b) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code.
