THANJAVUR:A team from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, emerged as winner of the 12th Nani Palkhivala Memorial National Taxation Moot Court Competition organised by the School of Law, SASTRA University.
At the valedictory function on Sunday, the team was presented a cash prize of `50,000 and a trophy. The runner-up team from Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala, got` 25,000 and a trophy too.
As many as 16 teams from various law schools from across the country took part in competition. The jury was presided over by RSVS Pavankumar, Commissioner of Income Tax, Chennai, and comprised senior advocates, Arvind Datar and N Venkatraman.
Delivering the valedictory address, Arvind Datar said Nani Palkhivala continues to be an inspiration to many practising advocates and law students.
He highlighted the arguments made by Palkhivala in various cases like that of Kesavananda Bharati, Golaknath, privy purse and bank nationalisation.
