Blame it on DMK Dirty Tricks Department

PWA constituents claim mutiny of 10 DMDK leaders engineered by DMK after it failed to net Captain.

CHENNAI/MADURAI:In the backdrop of 10 functionaries of the DMDK issuing an ultimatum to party founder Vijayakant to reverse his decision to align with the People’s Welfare Alliance (PWA),  leaders of PWA and DMDK blamed the DMK for the development. They alleged that the DMK was trying to engineer a split in the Vijayakant-led party after it failed to rope in the DMDK into its fold.

PWA coordinator Vaiko said that, at this hour of crisis, the PWA would stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the DMDK and protect it. He alleged that Rs 3 crore was paid to each of the ‘defectors’. The DMK would face its worst defeat in the Assembly polls on account of engineering a split in the DMDK, he said.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) State secretary G Ramakrishnan said the DMK was desperate to split the DMDK since the party’s alliance with the PWA had sent jitters down the spine of the DMK.

Emphasising that the DMK leaders are in the grip of a fear psychosis over defeat in the Assembly elections, he said that the people would teach a befitting lesson to the DMK for this kind of undemocratic acts.

Reacting to the expulsion handed out to the 10 rebels, C H Sekar, Tiruvallur district secretary and MLA from Gummidipoondi, told Express, “just because we raised an issue, we have been expelled from the party.  We will be announcing our next course of action on Wednesday.”

The expelled rebels further alleged that the DMDK is being controlled by Premalatha and her family members and attributed it as the root cause of all problems in the party.

On the other hand, V Muthukumar, MLA from Vriddhachalam said the party stood cleansed after the expulsion of these ‘betrayers’. He alleged that the 10 rebels had been in touch with many parties as their only objective was to become MLAs. “The entire drama is being enacted by the DMK,” he alleged.
