NAGAPATTINAM: Three persons, including two children, died and 29 others suffered grievous injuries as an omni bus in which they were travelling rammed into an electric pole near Kuthalam on Sunday. Preliminary enquiries revealed that the omni bus driver was exhausted and sleepy and also overspeeding when the incident occurred.
Sources said the bus with sleeper facility had 32 passengers from Chennai onboard and was proceeding towards Peravurani town in Thanjavur. As the omni bus approached a steep curve at Neikuppai near Kuthalam in the district, the driver, identified as Rajaram of Thiruthuraipoondi, lost control over the vehicle and subsequently rammed it into an electricity pole. All the 32 passengers were trapped in the mangled bus.
