Prohibition in Phased Manner if PWA Elected to Power: Vaiko

He said the PWA alliance also favors the proportional representation in Tamil Nadu as well as in the whole country.

PUDUCHERRY: General Secretary of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Vaiko, said total prohibition will be implemented in the Union Territory in a phased manner if People’s Welfare Alliance is elected to power.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, he said the constituent parties of the PWA will consider all aspects, beginning from restricting the timings of the liquor shops, reducing the number of liquor shops over shops, no further new licenses leading to total prohibition over a period of time.

He said that the PWA alliance will strive to achieve the Statehood for the Union territory and get the financial burden of over Rs 6200 crores loan dues.

Explaining he charged the BJP led Central Government is not allowing the democratically elected Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi in a smooth manner and Lieutenant Governor there is behaving like a dictator.

 Stressing only a full statehood for Delhi will allow its government to function properly, Vaiko said the statehood for the Union Territory is needed to ensure for the functioning of the government here.

He said the PWA alliance also favors the proportional representation in Tamil Nadu as well as in the whole country.

The MDMK chief revealed that an election special public meeting will be organized on May 11 in Tiruchy, where all the top leaders of the six party PWA alliances will take part. The third meeting of the alliance will mark the climax of the PWA alliance, which had organized such meetings in Madurai and Mamandur, which received overwhelming response.

Vaiko, who termed the younger generation as “cell phone Singamkal”, said the new generation, which uses the modern gadgets could effectively prevent the distribution and storage of money.

He said the “invisible force “of younger generation can prevail upon their parents not fall prey for inducements, offering of cash etc.

The MDMK chief alleged that the election commission of India had failed to check the distribution money to the voters by the parties like DMK in Tamil Nadu and misuse of power.

He added that most of the time, the EC officials are searching only the common people and allow the leaders of some leading political parties to travel without any proper checking.
