18K field workers out there fighting dengue, says health minister

CHENNAI: THE Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar on Tuesday informed the State Assembly that the spread of dengue fever was completely under control in the State because of effective preventive measures taken by the government. He also urged the DMK members not to create fear psychosis among the people by reeling out false information.

Responding to an issue raised by P K Sekar Babu (DMK) during the zero hour, Vijaya Baskar said that at a time when Ebola virus, Zika virus and swine flu were threatening various states, Tamil Nadu was safe from these threats, thanks to the preventive steps taken by the State government. As many as 18,165 field workers have been appointed across the State for controlling dengue by conducting awareness camps and more. Further because of the multidisciplinary action involving various departments,  dengue had been controlled. For mosquito elimination work, `33.6 crore had been allocated. The highest number of Elisa test centres (75) was working in Tamil Nadu to diagnose this fever.
