Lt Governor Kiran Bedi makes maiden visit to Karaikal

Puducherry Lt Governor made her maiden visit to Karaikal district to review activities in various govt departments.

KARAIKAL: Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today made her maiden visit to Karaikal district to review activities in various government departments here.

Bedi, who took charge as the Lt Governor recently, began her two-day review with field visits to the municipal garbage disposal yard, Karaikal fishing harbour, the 100-year old Nehru Market, which is in a dilapidated condition and the tourist Lodge at Karaikal new beach.

During the visit, she instructed municipal authorities to keep the town clean and resort to efficient solid waste management.

Later, she held a review meeting at the Collectorate during which she explained her vision on efficient governance to officials and sought to know about the disaster preparedness measures taken.

Earlier, she inaugurated the biometric access system in all government offices in the district to track attendance of government staff.

Stressing the importance of punctuality, the Lt Governor urged government officials to accord the highest priority to redressal of public grievances.

Later, she met the public and received grievance petitions.

Puducherry Agriculture Minister R Kamalakannan and MLAs in Karaikal district were also present.
