CHENNAI: AIADMK supporters roughed up an advocate who turned up at the party headquarters in Chennai wanting to file nomination papers for the expelled Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa in the election for the post of AIADMK general secretary.
An election to the all-important post is a rather outdated practice in the AIADMK. The post was occupied by the late Jayalalithaa until her death earlier this month. Jayalalithaa's aide V K Sasikala is the frontrunner to succeed her and is likely to be so anointed when the general council of the AIADMK meets here on Thursday.
So when the advocate arrived on his improbable mission, party supporters questioned Sasikala Pushpa’s locus standi to contest for the general secretary’s post and proceeded to rain blows on him. Police intervened and extricated the man from the mob. Security has been beefed up at the party office following the incident.
