CHENNAI: The AIADMK supporters roughed up expelled Rajya Sabha MP Sasikala Pushpa’s husband, who turned up at the party headquarters here on Wednesday, wanting to file nomination papers for Sasikala Pushpa for the election to the post of AIADMK general secretary.

As information about advocate Lokeswara Thilagam’s attempt reached the media and party cadre in advance, a large number of cadre and former ministers were present at the AIADMK headquarters on Lloyds Road from the morning itself.

When Thilagam wanted to file papers in the name of Sasikala Pushpa to contest for the general secretary post, a scuffle ensued. He was pulled out of the office by angry cadre, who questioned the locus standi of an expelled member to compete in the party polls.

Even as the cadre began raining blows on him, police intervened and rescued a bleeding Thilagam from the mob.

Soon afterwards, Sasikala Pushpa lodged complaints about the assault with the Home Secretary, DGP, city Police Commissioner and inspector of Royapettah Police Station, claiming that both she and her husband continue to be AIADMK members.

Meanwhile, actor Anandaraj, at a press conference, announced that he had quit the AIADMK.  He said his decision reflected the mindset of lakhs of AIADMK cadre and appealed to the senior leaders of the party to elect someone who has the support of the cadre as well as the public.
