Three Petrol Bombs Hurled Near Temple

MADURAI:  In a scary incident, miscreants threw petrol bombs at three places, all in the vicinity of the renowned Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, which is facing a high  threat perception, here on Tuesday.

Police said, unidentified persons had hurled a petrol bomb near the pay and use toilet on the Market Lane Street around 4.30 pm itself but as it did not explode, people there failed to notice the act and hence there was no complaint.

Around 7.30 pm, miscreants threw two petrol bombs in the same locality out of which one exploded. Screaming out of fear, passersby rushed towards Meenakshi temple where police personnel have been deployed for security.

The cops found one burnt beer bottle in the blast site. Bomb detection and disposal squad recovered the burnt beer bottle and two more petrol-filled bottles. Personnel from the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Special Investigation Cell (SIC) inspected the spot. SIU officials said that bombs were thrown to create panic and ruled out that the hand of fundamentalist elements.
