MADURAI: Some unidentified persons hurled country bombs at two AIADMK offices, including the office of Minister for Co-operation Sellur K Raju, within a gap of a few minutes in the city on Saturday.

The city police also recovered similar bombs from a desolated spot near A V bridge at Alwarpuram. Meanwhile, the Co-operation Minister on Sunday told reporters that the attack could have been due to political vendetta.

The miscreants, who came in two motorbikes wearing helmets, struck the AIADMK Madurai urban unit office on Panagal Road and MLA office of Raju in Samattipuram late in the night. Though minor damages were caused, nobody was hurt.

Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad rushed to the spot and collected evidence from both the spots.

Following the blast, the City police beefed up security at Madura College, where Raju along with state Finance Minister O Panneerselvam attended the enrolment drive of the party.

A police official said two bike-borne men wearing helmets hurled a country bomb made of explosive chemicals, nails and other iron materials at the AIADMK urban unit office, followed by a kerosene bomb, around 11.30 pm, on Saturday. Though the kerosene bomb did not explode, its glass container broke into pieces, added the police official.

Within a gap of a few minutes, another two-member gang hurled both country bombs and kerosene bombs at Raju’s office. Both the bombs exploded and the door of the Minister’s office was damaged partially.

Addressing the media persons on Sunday, Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav said they have received clues from the CCTV footage. Mathichiyam Police registered the case on the blast at Panagal Road, while S S Colony Police registered one related to Samattipuram incident.
