MMK's Pudupet Office Ransacked over Factional Feud

CHENNAI: Tension prevailed around the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) office in Pudupet on Saturday after a scuffle between two factions.

Violence broke out after an executive committee meeting, through a resolution, expelled party president, MH Jawahirullah and Ambur MLA Aslam Basha.

Even as tension prevailed, MMK General secretary Thamimun Ansari convened the meeting to discuss poll alliance, police sources said. The MMK office was ransacked by supporters of Jawahirullah around 2 am, according to a complaint Ansari filed with the Egmore police.

However, a statement sent by Jawahirulla’s faction claimed that Ansari’s tenure as General Secretary had ended on January 6 this year and he has been creating unnecessary trouble in the party. The release further condemned Ansari for using the party name and flag for the meeting called on Saturday.

Teen Dies in Mishap

A 19-year-old polytechnic student died after his two wheeler was crushed between a parked bus and a speeding truck near Pattabiram on Saturday. The victim, C Ajai Kumar, resident of Nagathamman Nagar in Nemilichery, was returning from Avadi on his bike when he met with the accident around 8.30 am after dropping his sister studying class 11 at a private school nearby. He tried to overtake the parked bus when a truck also overtook the bus.

The truck brushed against the bike which got crushed between the bus and the truck. Ajai Kumar was rushed to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Poonamalee Traffic Investigation wing have registered a case and arrested the truck driver K Veera Ragavan (68) of MKB Nagar.
