MK Open to Any Ally for 'Democracy'

TIRUVARUR:DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Monday declared that his party is open to having electoral alliance if it would help “triumph of democracy”.

Addressing media persons after paying homage at the memorial of his mother in Kattur near Tiruvarur, Karunanidhi said the DMK would not keep away any party that approaches him for alliance. Answering a question, the DMK president said the manifesto of the party would have democracy as its focus. When queried if there will be any mention of reduction in electricity tariff in the manifesto, Karunanidhi said disclosing the contents of the manifesto at this stage would tantamount to breaching party discipline. The manifesto would speak in detail about the electricity policy, he added.

On a question whether he would contest from Tiruvarur in the coming Assembly elections, Karunanidhi said he would contest if the people of Tiruvarur asked him to do so and the party admits. Talking about the prospects of DMK, Karunanidhi said the prospects of DMK winning the elections is good. To a question about the performance of the AIADMK government, Karunanidhi said he had nothing to say about it.
