Pupils Can Skip Tamil Exam

CHENNAI:  The Madras High Court has directed the authorities concerned to exempt all students who opt for exemption from writing the Tamil examination from doing so.

A bench of Chief Justice S K Kaul and Justice M Sathyanarayanan granted the exemption while passing orders on petitions from students, whose mother tongue is other than Tamil, challenging Act 13 of 2006, which made Tamil the first language. “We have no option  but to exempt all the candidates who have sought exemption from taking the exam,” the bench said.
