AISMK FounderSarathkumar Expels MLA, 6 Office-Bearers

CHENNAI: The All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) founder R Sarathkumar on Wednesday expelled Ernavur Narayanan, MLA from Nanguneri assembly constituency and vice-president, AISMK, for anti-party activities.

He also expelled Karu Nagarajan, general secretary, Ice House Thiyagu, headquarters secretary and a few others who had, earlier in the day, joined the BJP in New Delhi in the presence of the Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan.

In a statement here, Sarathkumar said an emergency meeting of the party office-bearers would be held in Chennai on January 28.

Reacting to the development, Narayanan told Express that “After his defeat in the elections for South Indian Film Artistes Association, Sarathkumar’s activities have not been good for the party.”

Narayanan claimed that Sarathkumar had a grouse that the AIADMK leadership had engineered his defeat and had been forcing him to resign as MLA and act against the ruling party. But he had refused to oblige.

Responding to a question, Narayanan said, “In reality, I am an AIADMK MLA. I will be announcing my decision tomorrow (January 28).”

Sources said Narayanan could represent his position to the AIADMK leadership. AISMK has two MLAs — R Sarathkumar and Ernavur Narayanan, and significantly, both of them were elected on the AIADMK symbol and hence technically, they were AIADMK MLAs.
