MADURAI : The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Tuesday suspended the sentence against the remaining four convicts, including the school founder Pulavar R Palanisamy,  in the Kumbakonam school fire accident case.


Besides Palanisamy, those who got the relief were meal organiser Vijayalakshmi, cook Vasanthi   and engineer Jeyachandiran.Last week, the court suspended the sentence against five convicts.


One of the convicted,  school correspondent Saraswathi, wife of Palanisamy, died recently in prison.
The fire in July 2004 at the Sri Krishna Middle School of Kumbakonam claimed the lives of  94 children and caused injuries to 18.


The Thanjavur Principal District and Sessions Judge held 10 people, including the school founder and correspondent, headmistress, cook and meal organiser, guilty.


Eleven people were acquitted.
Following the verdict, all 10 convicts preferred appeals.
On Tuesday, a division bench of Justices M Sathyanarayanan and V M Velumani suspended the sentence for the four convicts.


They were then directed to appear every first day of the month before the Judicial Magistrate Court in Thanjavur. The bench adjourned the petition to December 1.
