Acting Governor Vidyasagar calls on Jayalalithaa, enquires about her health

Rao enquired about her health and the details of treatment being given to her. He was there for about 35 minutes.

CHENNAI: Acting Governor of Tamil Nadu, Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Saturday called on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa at Apollo Hospital, where she has been treated since September 22. 

State Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal and senior Ministers were present during his visit.

Large number of AIADMK cadre were present around the hospital when the Acting Governor arrived. Police had made elaborate security arrangements. 

Meanwhile, responding to mediapersons at Apollo hospitals, AIADMK spokesperson Panruti S Ramachandran said indeed, Dr Richard Beale had been treating the Chief Minister. Answering a question as to whether the government would issue photographs of Jayalalithaa, he said there was no need for that.

The first medical bulletin was issued by the hospital in the wee hours of September 23 stating she was admitted for fever and dehydration. Later, another bulletin on September 24 said Jayalalithaa was cured of fever and on normal diet.

While wild rumours were doing the rounds about her health, the Chief Minister, on September 27, held an hour long meeting with top officials of the State government on the Cauvery issue and the developments that followed the interim directions of the Supreme Court. 

The next day, she announced Rs 476 crore bonus for the 3.67 lakh employees of the State Public Sector Undertakings. On September 29, the Apollo hospital issued another bulletin saying that she was responding well to the treatment.

The bulletin also said the doctors had advised her to stay at the hospital for a few more days during recuperation period and that necessary evaluation tests were being carried out.

Ever since Jayalalithaa was admitted to the hospital, the AIADMK cadre across the State have been offering special prayers in places of worship of all religions.
