Rs 14 lakh seized in 1 night, 28 arrested

In a Swift action by the election flying squad, 28 persons were arrested and Rs 14 lakh in cash was seized from R K Nagar, within four hours on Tuesday night.

CHENNAI: In a Swift action by the election flying squad, 28 persons were arrested and Rs 14 lakh in cash was seized from R K Nagar, within four hours on Tuesday night. Also two DMK cadre were allegedly stabbed during a clash with AIADMK (Amma) cadre.
Based on a tip-off, the flying squad along with the city police raided Nethaji Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Bharathi Nagar and Ajies Nagar. The raid began at 11 pm and lasted till 3 am. “During inspection, the team had found Rs 9 lakh hidden in a house of one S Srinivasan. Eleven people were arrested from the house,” said a police source.

In an another incident at Kasimedu, the team found five men standing on the street. When the team quizzed them, they found them carrying Rs 1.29 lakh which was also seized.
Similarly, any person carrying a large sum of money was taken for inquiry, suspecting them to be bribing people for votes.
Meanwhile, in a tussle between the DMK cadre and the supporters of TTV Dhinakaran over cracking the money distribution, two DMK cadre were stabbed.

The injured have been identified as Parthasarathy and Sheikh Mohammed, members of the youth wing, who are undergoing treatment at  the Stanley Government Hospital. The DMK working president M K Stalin visited the partymen at the hospital.
Following this the DMK cadre staged a protest at the R K Nagar police station urging to arrest the suspects who attacked the partymen. Based on complaint, three persons - Ajith, Murugan and Darshan - have been arrested and remanded in judicial custody by a local court.
