CHENNAI: Continuing its ‘never before’ measures for the by-election in RK Nagar Assembly constituency, the Election Commission on Thursday stationed one of its Directors - Vikram Batra, IRS, at the office of Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in the Secretariat.
Significantly, the appointment of Batra has come amidst several complaints of money distribution by various political parties.
Batra will be reviewing arrangements by the State and coordinate with other enforcement agencies for the by-election and report to EC. He is likely to stay here till the bypoll.
After assuming charge, Batra visited many parts of RK Nagar to oversee the arrangements and later held discussions with District Election Officer (DEO) D Karthikeyan, Returning Officer Praveen P Nair, Police Commissioner Karan Singha and EC Observers.
Karthikeyan said 70 flying squads would also have micro observers to check any irregularity.
Meanwhile, PMK and AIADMK (PT-Amma) handed petitions to CEO Rajesh Lakhoni and Batra on malpractices.
