COIMBATORE: Coimbatore Range Deputy Inspector General Deepak M Damor has ordered an investigation into the lathicharge incident in Samalapuram near Tirupur, during which Additional SP A Pandiyarajan allegedly manhandled a women protester. The protesters were demanding the closure of a Tasmac shop in their area.

“We have launched a formal inquiry into the matter,” DIG Deepak told Express. “The investigation will be held by Coimbatore SP R V Ramya Bharathi. She has been asked to submit the report in three days. Based on the report, we will take departmental action if ADSP Pandiyarajan is found to have done anything wrong,” he added. 

“I have received an oral order from the top officials to investigate the matter,” said Coimbatore SP Ramya Bharathi, adding, “after getting the official order from the head office, I will visit Samalapuram and start probe.”
Meanwhile, the All India Democratic Women Association staged a protest in front of the Mahalingapuram police station condemning the ‘brutal attack’ on the protester. It demanded action against Pandiyarajan.
