Efforts to destabilise government will fail, says Palaniswami

PERAMBALUR: Launching a veiled attack at the Opposition and O Panneerselvam faction, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said forces that were trying hard to destablise and pull down the AIADMK government would not succeed as it enjoyed the support of people and elected representatives. He made this comment while speaking at the birth centennary celebrations of AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran in Perambalur on Saturday.

Recalling that late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had always stood by the farmers, he pointed out the legal steps initiated by her to ensure Tamil Nadu’s right’s over Cauvery waters and expressed confidence that the Cauvery Management Board (CMB) would be formed soon. Formation of CMB was a subject close to Jayalalithha’s heart, he added. Speaking about MGR, the Chief Minister  described the former as the champion of the masses who dedicated his life towards uplifting the underprivileged.

Describing Perambalur, which is spread over 1.75 lakh hectares, as best suited for agriculture, Palaniswami said aid worth `94.75 crore has been distributed to 9,102 beneficiaries in the district in one year under several government schemes. Announcing new projects for the district, the Chief Minister said  a new bridge would be constructed at a cost of `14 crore to connect Thiruvalandhurai with Keelakalpoondi.
Talking about other welfare profects rolled out by the AIADMK government for farmers, he said `300 crore have been allotted for Kudimaramathu works so far to revive 2,065 water bodies across the State.
