CHENNAI: DMK working president MK Stalin has been permitted by the Madras High Court to visit Kacharyankuttai in Edappadi village, which is Chief Minister K Palanisamy’s constituency. One of the two conditions Justice M Duraiswamy imposed was that he should inform the Salem District Collector about his visit, two days in advance. “Stalin can visit the tank after duly informing the Salem District Collector two days prior to his visit.

The Collector shall provide necessary police protection during his visit,” the judge said. The court also directed Stalin to restrict the number of partymen accompanying him during the visit to 25. The judge was disposing of a writ petition from party legal wing secretary Girirajan alleging that the government was preventing Stalin from visiting water-bodies which are being desilted by DMK cadre.

Opposing the plea, the government submitted that Stalin was free to visit any place except Kacharayankuttai. “In that particular tank, desilting work is being carried out by the government with the help of the locals and the DMK is in no way connected to it. If Stalin is allowed to visit the place, then the partymen will take credit for the work,” Additional Advocate General told the judge. ENS
